Mold can affect your body in many different ways. Many symptoms of mold exposure may appear to be nothing more than simple seasonal allergies or viruses. But if you notice these symptoms appearing over a long period of time or not subsiding after the usual seven to 10 days, you should have your home tested for mold. Let’s take a look at the common symptoms of mold exposures.
Irritations
Skin rashes can be quite common in a number of different individuals. But if you have come into direct contact with mold or have been inhaling its fumes, your rash could be from mold exposure. Rashes from mold are extremely itchy and can be irritating but you must avoid scratching. Scratching could break the skin causing scars and possible infections. Mold can also cause eye irritations. It can make your eyes watery and red. Although many people assume this irritation is caused by seasonal allergies, it can actually be caused by mold.
Headaches
On average nearly 45 million Americans complain of headaches each year and approximately eight million Americans take their complaints to a medical professional. Mold headaches are caused by breathing in mold. Migraine sufferers can be extremely sensitive to mold exposures and other stimulants.
Fatigue and Sore Throats
Despite an adequate amount of sleep, you may be feeling run down and tired for several days in a row. Although many illnesses and allergies can make you feel unusually tired, this could be because of mold exposure. You could also be feeling sore throat that feels raw when swallowing or makes your voice hoarse. This could be indicative of mold exposure as spores can become lodged in your throat.
Nose
There are several symptoms that have to do with your nose and breathing in general. If you notice a shortness of breath and difficulty breathing, you could be experiencing mold allergies. This is an extremely prevalent mold symptom and could become serious by developing into asthma. A runny nose or sinuses could also be triggered by mold. The mold spores irritate the membranes in your nose. Although it is a rare symptom, nose bleeds have occurred in individuals suffering from mold exposures.
While these symptoms won’t manifest in everyone exposed to mold, these symptoms should warrant a trip around your home with a mold testing specialist to look for mold growth.
